No way to really tell if len is dirty cept by looking at it...maybe thru magnifier. If the Nikon that shot the pic had a UV filter to protect the lens...maybe it possibly could have been dirty or as another comment suggested, the sensor…"

what may be happening is reflections from the mist in the air which occurs on the beach. I took sum shots 2 ys ago on the beach at night attempting to get shots of the wavelets washing on the beach. All the shots had spots on them…"

- About Me and My Photography Experience:
- In photography since 1970,s Pentax SLRs, went Digital with Casio 5.0mp camera ,90s then graduated to Sony H5 for 2yr, then went DSLR year ago with Nikon D40 and 70-300 VR telephoto. Mostly nature photography, some portrait shoots, but mostly bird, butterfly, flower, and macro's. Favorite's are macros and sunsets. Learning Photoshop to utilize retouching and exposure correction capabilities of software .
Currently learning by doing--no formal schooling in Photoshop or Digital Photography-self taught thru books.
Love to shoot pictures 24/7 and consider myself an accomplished amateur nature photographer.
