About Me and My Photography Experience:
I guess I need to start with my father's influence on me in regards to the art world. Many years in my youth were spent apprenticing with dad, who was a Master sign painter and also a master at gold leaf application and gilding. He started Wardhaugh Signs & Displays (1926 -1980) after completing a seven year apprenticeship. What has amazed his peers was the fact he never used a mahl stick. Only his baby finger would be his guide when lettering or painting. When he felt I was ready, I would assist him with Victorian home and museum fresco restorations along with advertising wall murals on buildings in the downtown Belleville area during the late 1960s and 1970s. Like most artists he was experimental and for a few years we created contact frames for "photo meta graphics" (photographic silk screen process). This technology came before the computer-graphics age for "fine art" projects.

Around this time I had the honour to have been taught by Philippa Faulkner, RCA, OSPW, CSPW, OSA, SCA, MFA during junior school (Grades 7, 8). Not very many artists of this "calibre" would even dream of teaching at that grade level; we were very lucky to have her teach us my father once said.

Why the medium of photography?

Well? When in Highland Park, Illinois during my teens (long...long ago); I had a wonderful Graphic Arts teacher who was an excellent photographer in his own right. Also he invited many current and famous graphic artists to our school. Students like myself worked on projects with the likes of William "Bill" Walker, the "muralist" that applied his wonderful talent to the burned-out buildings after The Chicago Riots of 1968. His work was made famous for the "Wall of Humanity" and "The All of Mankind" mural from 1972. I have a few old Polaroid shots of his work taken shortly after it was completed; images can be viewed here. Also the school had an excellent darkroom and it was here where I learned the fundamentals of developing B & W film.

I have always had a "closeness" to my natural world and to do it justice I decided on photography to express myself and to put my fitch & quills away. I have spent many weeks at a time in Ontario's "boreal" forests. One of my favorite spots for nature photography is Bon Echo Provincial Park just north of where I live. The lake is the second deepest in Ontario (approx. 476 ft); so deep in fact the water appears almost black. Ancient native red ochre pictographs adorn the cliff walls that can be seen close-up by canoe or kayak. Wild blueberries can be found at the top of the cliff in August. I hope to spend some time this summer there and will upload the images taken, so stay tuned!
My Photography Equipment:
I presently use a Canon PowerShot A550 & a JVC GZ-MG20 and will be expanding my equipment to a top end Canon SLR. Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions and suggestions.

Thanks for the reference to the site. I have joined and have also become a data recorder as well. Since I am retired, and my reading and typing are not too bad yet, I thought that this may be a bit of time that I should not waste. Thank you for the tip and I look forward to communicating with you further.

I was living in Vancouver, B.C. in those days while I worked as a french-service waiter in the Four Seasons Hotel. A friend and myself took the cheapie "Areo America" flights from Seattle sometime in late January when the hotel business was slow. We went to the original Eddie Bauer store in Seattle for gear and hiking and "to-do" guides. If my memory is correct it was like 29.99 to fly to any island via Aloha & Hawaiian Airlines. I got to see most of the islands this way. We didn't get to Molokai as well as Robertson's Island (that needed special permission).

OMG! When you were in Hawaii the airlines offered "common fare" which also allowed for saving money! Hawaii has changed a lot since then in social values but the natural scenery is still beautiful when you can find it and the weather is still the same -- perfect 90% of the time!

I see by the photagraphs that you are displaying you are around birds a lot. I used to enjoy going on the Christmas bird count every year at Presqille. At that time, I did not have a camera that I wanted to carry with me as we counted the various birds. This is my first note to anyone on this site which I only found this morning. I am glad to have found someone who lives close by and takes good photos of birds. I live in Peterborough, so don't hesitate to correspond.

Thank you James for the wonderful comments on my pictures... I love taking pictures of the birds..the nest of the Osprey? (not sure I spelled that correct) the shots were taken on the tail end of the island of Ft Myers beach.. Also known as barefoot beach... they are protected I think.
