Jeff Hatcher replied to Jeff Hatcher's discussion Nikon D5000- Likes and Dislikes in the group Nikon D5000
"I agree. I think its helpful to have to slow down and think about your shots from time to time.  I also find that autofocus does not always do what you want it to do anyhow.  On the D5000 (or D5100 nowadays),Being able to use live-view…"

"I do not use the scene modes. Recently purchased the 50mm 1.8 lens and it is really making me slow down my shots a lot BUT I can't complain. Totally in love with it and it doesn't bother me that there is no motor whats so ever... makes me…"

Jeff Hatcher replied to Angga's discussion Can we use Nikkor 18-55mm or 55-200mm for macro? in the group Macro photos
"I've used the 55-200 as a macro with good results, but you need to purchase either (1) A close-focus filter (diopter) to put on the front of the lens.  There is some associated degradation of image quality.  or (2) Purchase an…"

Jeff Hatcher replied to Barbara Covil West's discussion I have just purchased the D5000 and seen this group in the group Nikon D5000
"check your ISO settings. If the camera is picking your ISO, you may be getting up to around 800-1200 iso. The D5000 handles higher ISO's pretty well, but you will get a little bit of grain. I manually control the ISO settings so I don't…"

Jeff Hatcher replied to Stevie Mc Teague's discussion D5000 live view?? in the group Nikon Users Group
"Live-view Focus is only good for high-contrast situations. Not as fast to adapt for "action" photos. Main use of live view is for manual focus or setting up shots at uncomfortable angles, where use of the viewfinder is not convenient. The…"

Jeff Hatcher replied to Marion Wilson's discussion Third Party Lens vs Nikon Lens in the group Nikon D5000
"The tamron 28 to 75 is a nice lens, with a fixed aperture of f/2.8. The nikon has a wider zoom, but has a variable aperture from 3.5 to 5.6. I have had good luck with the tamron, and can recommend it to you without reservation. (my main lenses are…"

"The tamron 28-75 f/2.8 is also a pretty nice starter lens (~$400). Pairs up well with the tamrom f/2.8 70-200mm Lens. The Nikon kit lenses (18-55 VR and 55-200VR)also give pretty good bang for the buck."

About Me and My Photography Experience:
Started with a point and shoot (kodak easy share z740) about 3 years ago. Started getting the hang of composition, exposure, aperture, etc. Just upgraded to the Nikon D5000 and am really appreciating how much more you can do with a DSLR. I mainly enjoy nature/landscape photography and closeup photography.

Jeff Hatcher's Blog

End of summer.... thought I'd write something...

Posted on August 22, 2009 at 4:59pm 0 Comments

I'm really not that much for blogging, but as long as I'm here....

First couple of months with the cameral have been a blast. Been experimenting with lighting, lenses, focal distances, filters, software, everything I can think of trying to get a handle on this stuff. Increased my admiration for those of you who routinely get those nice pictures with the perfect exposure, composition, etc.

I'm going to try to find local photo events here in Orlando, meet some other… Continue

Hello there and welcome to PictureSocial.com, a network of photographers. I'm glad that you've joined and it's time to be in the crazy world of photography! In this site, you'll find photographs which come from beginners, amateur and professional photographers and I must say that all of them do some amazing work. I'd also want to invite you to join groups here such as Nikon Users Group, Canon Users Group, Live PictureSocial Chat Group and Pixel Induced Group(an all around group) and joining these groups can help improve your knowledge in photography. You can start discussions, comment on pictures, and share some of your advice, criticism and experiences in the forum, and I'm
pretty sure you'll get positive feedbacks from a lot of nice people here around. I hope you'll enjoy it here!

Cheers!
