"Thanks for the enhancement! It looks great! It was actually a wild bird. It really just didn't care at all that I was taking photos of it. It had just caught a mouse, so it was pretty preoccupied!"

Danay Marleth Cabrera Oviedo replied to Jess Beckstrom's discussion Bird Photography in the group Photo Criticism
"I like the bird.. i do... but the colors are very dull.. there's no balance.. i think the background if very blurry..  vivid (on the bird) but with lack of energy and interest."

Bethany Domann replied to Jess Beckstrom's discussion Bird Photography in the group Photo Criticism
"This is a nice picture of a bird.. that's almost all i see thought. There isn't a lot of difference in color and the bird is just centered. I would suggest adding something with a bright color like a random flower or putting the bird off…"

"Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I used a Pentax *ist DL and to be honest I don't remember the settings. I know that I used a fairly low ISO, and I was about 3 feet away from the bird."

Gary Vernon replied to Jess Beckstrom's discussion Bird Photography in the group Photo Criticism
"  Nice catch Jess, tonally the colors are a little washed out, when you get a bird quite similar to the background you need to edit for separation between the two, a curves adjustment would help bring out the color and contrast in the Hawk…"

Profile Information

About Me and My Photography Experience:
I've been interested in photography for quite some time, and I am now a college student planning on pursuing photography as a minor. My subjects are usually horses/dogs, but I do take photos of a little bit of everything. I haven't had formal instruction yet, but I feel like I have good instincts! I'm looking forward to instruction within the coming years.
My Photography Equipment:
One very ancient Pentax *ist DL. Although I would LOVE something new, it is still giving me some great shots!

Cesar is a great model for your training. I use his methods as well for both my golden and my border coolie, but it's much more of a task to keep the border balanced. Great dogs but have a lot of energy, are highly focused and very! smart, although different in intelligence from the golden. I think they are equally smart, just different. I agree about horses but you have to be careful with horsey people. Welcome to Picture Social

Jess; I just went to your website, you have an exceptional ability to capture beauty. Much better than 90% of what I see on this and the other websites I frequent. Your golden retriever portraits are wonderful and remind of my sweet girl. If it's your dog be sure and throw the ball often for her (him) and go on long walks. They are God's most perfect creature (although for you it may be a toss up with horses) and we only get to be their friends, on this earth, for a short amount of time.
