The Belle Meade Chronicles

This is the Belle Meade Mansion in Belle Meade Tn. A small skirmish broke out here in the civil war. The occupants were confederate sympathizers and had been providing food and supplies to the confederates. After Nashville became occupied by the Union Army, they posted guards at the mansion and kept the occupants under house arrest. A band of confederates were unaware of this fact and came here for supplies. The Union troops heard their arrival and a small skirmish broke out. The columns still…See More

WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHERS

Thumbnail
This group is for photographers who love to shoot animals in the wild. I didn't see a group like this on the site, so I figured I'd get one going. My intention here is to let people show their hard-earned wildlife photos. No captive animals please.

I love the second one. The first one is good as well but the fact that the second one is from England gives it an edge.

The Repetition of History II

Posted on September 15, 2009 at 1:59pm 0 Comments

Transportation was very important in those days as well as now. The biggest difference is it is more abundant now. When I drive past these old trucks and cars, I always wonder about the hands that turned the key. I wonder how the vehicle got there. Was it abandoned there after it broke down? Just what do all those pull nobs do? I wonder if a dad taught his son or daughter to drive in this. I wonder if at any time any of them were embarrassed by it,… Continue

The Repetition of History

Posted on September 14, 2009 at 2:30pm 2 Comments

I live in the original Dust Bowl area. After fighting it for several years, farmers and their families abandoned their livelihoods and went west looking for a better life. Along the way, cars and truck were abandoned after they broke down. In some cases, relatives were left along the way when they passed away. As noted in John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath", some folks were buried along the road side.

More and more, families started arriving in California and started…

Hi, this might be a group you would like to join.

I just sent this out because I am thinking of changing the format of this challenge a little.

This is for the Tuesday Challenge Weekly learning Contest. It might work better for you.

I have been thinking about making a few changes hopefully to generate more response and interest in the challenge.

I want to make this a Weekly Challenge Contest. It seems that everyone loves to win. If we make this a challenge from Tuesday -Friday for taking the picture and submitting it, then voting on Saturday and Sunday, posting the winner on Monday. The person that gets the highest score will choose the next challenge for the week.

I will participate in the challenge but not in the contest. You can either post the score on the site or send in secret the score for each person or the one you think should win. Please critique and comment to everyone. This will help the person have a chance to retake the picture and submit a final pic for the contest entry.

I am hoping to also figure out how to make a scrolling picture of the people who get the highest scores each week.

Scoring will be 1-5 on sticking with the theme, artistic value and also technical. I would like some volunteers for rotating with me for the tracking of the scores.

Let me know what you think of this idea and if it interests any of you. Please get your friends to participate also. The more the better. I would truly like this to be a creative and learning challenge contest.

Remember you can comment on mine also, because I am like you still learning.
