Ed,
LOL!!!! That is awesome. I particularly enjoyed the comment about Steichens photo which, I believe, recently became the highest priced photo ever sold.... well north of a mill.
I imagine if Adams, Weston, Winogrand, et al, had the internet…
Yes, go to F/22 and set your ISO to 100. Must use a tripod as you'll need a thirty second exposure. You'll get the starburst from the lights and a very sharp photo.
Photography is a series of compromises. I don't think you can get the sky due to the amount of water in the air that is refracting the light. It's like having a hazy piece of glass on the end of your lens. If you like the mist then…
Larry, I'm an IT Director for a large Insurance company. I came to photography around Thanksgiving 2008 when a co worker let me borrow his wife's 30D for about a month. I fell in love with photography and got the 50D in the spring of 2009 - then I gave my friend back his 30 D :-) I have spent a LOT of time studying photography since then. I have a big stack of books and use the local library. My wife says, "Is there any book you haven't read on photography" :-) I also signed up for Kelby Training which is FANTASTIC. There's a good list of podcasts I listen to each day as I have a 50 minute commute. Yeah, it's only been a year but an intense one.
Somehow, I get the impression, you've been a photographer, way more than a year. Nice photographs and you seem very knowledgeable.
Excellent list of gear.
