Profile Information

About Me and My Photography Experience:
As a young child growing up, I was always fascinated by what I would refer to as magic when trying to understand the concept of Photography. How an image could be created onto film {as it was then} by a simple pressing of the shutter button, followed by the process of developement in the old dark rooms.

Over the years, I had the basic & cheapest of cameras, always dreaming that one day, yes one day I would invest in a really good one, maybe when all the children are off our hands.

Well my dreams finally became a reality in my later years, as I have become much more of a shutterbug now with the purchasing of my first really good camera, a Nikon D90, becoming a member of a camera club, meeting new people & discovering the many techniques & functions of my SLR digital camera & loving it.

In just 2 years of my becoming a member of my local club, I can already see how much more my photography skill levels have improved.
I put this down to attending workshops, club field trips, reading my manuel, & all I can on photography that's available either in books, or the Internet. Also, our monthly competitions which are judged by some highly acclaimed judges, all being members of the Photographic Society of Queensland {PSQ}

In their judging, they can be critical with their critique {audio}, but this is all beneficial in learning how to become a better photographer I believe, & that's what it's all about, so I continually look forward to the many challenges of improving my skills in Photography be it through criticism or trial & error.

Photography is currently my hobby & it is a great past time for me, but as i continue to grow & learn, I would like to get to a point where I am able to sell my photographs & make some money from them. This in turn, can assist in the financing of further equipment as I am now getting into the creative side of Photography, & all of the various filters that can assist in that.

As I approach retirement within the next 10 years, I can see a lot of my time will be taken up with Photography, how can I not be excited about that.

Happy Shooting
John Gregory
My Photography Equipment:
Nikon D90- 1 x 18-55mm Nikon lens
1 x 55-200 Nikon lens
1 x 10- 24mm Tamron Wide Angle lens
1 x 90mm Tamron Macro lens
1 x 150- 500 Sigma telephoto lens
1 x remote cable release
1 x wireless remote
1 x inca tripod, going to invest in a manfrotto
quite a number of Gradual Nuetral density filters
Cir Polarizing filters, UV filters-Florescent filters
1 x Infrared filter-looking to get filters that give Optical Effects
all my lenses have hoods, I also have a lens brush, a small clip on torch that fits onto the brim of my cap, allowing my hands free when trying to adjust camera settings in the dark.

I have 3 camera bags, all have their various uses, depending on what lenses I want to take, & what I am going to be shooting.
One of my bags is in fact a carry on {luggage} type of bag, which accomodates all of my lenses plus my camera & some accessories for when I'm traveling.

Latest on my gear, I have just recently purchased my dream Tripod
a Manfrotto 190XPROB Tripod & 804RC2 3way Pan/Tilt Head.
I'm pretty excited & look forward to many great photos from it.

Hi John, finally getting a look at your images - some very nice captures indeed.  I especially like the silhouettes of the fishermen, well seen.
