Calvin Morgan replied to John Macdonald's discussion internal memory!

"Somewhere between 1/250th and 1/8000th.  Slower if you are panning and want to motion blur the background.  I looked up a number of my flying bird photos and noted the majority were shot at that shutter speed range."

Robert Davis replied to John Macdonald's discussion focus!
"Well you're partly correct on this - - - My 6D doesn't require that the IS be turned off when on a tripod - says so in the manual. However, Rebel XT, 20D and 50D all require this feature to be turned off."

Robert Davis replied to John Macdonald's discussion focus!
"John, sounds like the problem lies within the lens. Is the lens connections clean? Is the lens actually focusing - can you see or hear the motor working? Have you dropped the lens or banged it some how? So many possibilities to consider here. Can…"

CameraClicker replied to John Macdonald's discussion birds!
"If you have a backyard and feeder, I like Peter Nowlan's suggestion of a blind.  A 200 mm lens, 8 Mpx body and smaller birds means you have to get close to fill the frame."
May 3
Peter Nowlan replied to John Macdonald's discussion birds!
"If you're trying for a fill the frame shot you will have to be less than 10 feet from the bird, unless it's a big bird. If you can put a broken branch close to the feeder, where the birds can perch, and use a blanket or canvas as a blind…"
