16-35mm or 17-40mm....Which one? HELP

I really want the 16-35mm and preferably a L series to ensure compatibility with a future body upgrade to possibly a Mark sometime in the future. Currently shooting with a 50D. My friends are telling me to go with the 17-40 because it's cheaper and that you will rarely use it at 2.8 if i am using it for landscapes. I do want to get those party pics as well with it and this lens seems to help within confined spaces and I just love being able to go as big as 2.8 when I felt like it. But what do…See More
