Thanks Perez. This biker series was lost for almost 6 months. I had overlooked them but knew I was missing some. Very excited to see them when I finally found them.
Hello Perez,
Thanks for adding me as your friend. I am coming to Paris soon. Not sure when but by end of 2010 for sure. I like your photos of people. I can see you connect well with your subjects. Aloha
I agree Lee that landscapes per se can be boring. I look for the drama of nature, sunshine through the clouds on a storm tossed sea, a mysterious looking shore or an amazing sunset. I like portrait photography. The closest I come to a photo essay is…
It is fun to converse w different photographers and talk about the different types of shooting we each like. Rarely do I do a landscape for a landscape. It is usually human and landscape mixed if I do. I took a workshop on travel photography once at…
Great biker shots! We have them come through our town once a year during the Run to the Redwoods when they come up from San Francisco. I always know when they come into town because they come right in front of the house on Main Street. While I enjoy…
Wow. Life Magazine. That is a true compliment. I have always loved Life Mag and its reincarnation a while back just didn't make the grade. I miss Life.
The photos remind me of the ones I used to see in Life magazine many years ago. (Now I'm revealing my age!) The Life photographers were experts at telling a story through photographs.
That's cool you think it is a good essay. I have worked on this one for several months. There are other photos that go along with this essay that I didn't know if this photo site would show. But it shows a good bit of the story. I have…
Hi Lee, This is a great photo essay. It makes me want to know more about Campbell Lane and the people who live there. It invites exploration of the subjects and the event that led up to the title of the album. It does everything a photo essay should…

I agree Lee that landscapes per se can be boring. I look for the drama of nature, sunshine through the clouds on a storm tossed sea, a mysterious looking shore or an amazing sunset. I like portrait photography. The closest I come to a photo essay is taking promotional shots for plays at our local repertory theatre. It's all good, and it's a good things that we all don't have a passion for the same thing. What a boring world that would be! Best of luck with your workshop idea.

I always know when they come into town because they come right in front of the house on Main Street. While I enjoy seeing photo essays, but real passion is nature and landscapes. I also want to pursue portrait work like the photo of the young girl on my page. My first priority is a trip to the east coast and then to England and Scotland to explore the land of my ancestors. I am not discounting your workshop idea, but right now there are other priorities. I think you should pursue the idea and see what happens.

Hi Lee, This is a great photo essay. It makes me want to know more about Campbell Lane and the people who live there. It invites exploration of the subjects and the event that led up to the title of the album. It does everything a photo essay should do. Please post more photos.
I noticed on your website that you had plans to publish a book. I did a book of my photos and poems online with a company at Blurb.com. It cost me nothing to do the book. The only cost comes when you buy the book. My book is 8 x 10 inches, full color with full bleed pages including text and photos. It is 80 pages long and the quality is excellent. You can order one book at a time and also list it in the site bookstore. My book, hard bound with a dust cover, runs about $35 plus shipping. The printing time took about ten days. You can see a sample of my book on www.blurb.com. Just type my name in the search box and you can preview the book. It is an inexpensive way to publish your work.
What I have been seeing lately is HDR images in magazines that look super saturated with color. I don't know enough about HDR to discuss it. That's just something more to learn about. I just want to shoot a good photograph and print the image or share the image on the net. I just found out today that a man in our town who worked with Ansel Adams has bone cancer. He is 94 years old and did a lot of photo mural work in his lifetime. We have talked about Adams and he said the man had a giant ego and was very self centered. It sounds like he would be difficult to work with. There is not much they can do for my friend, but it has been wonderful hearing his stories about the early days of photography.
I usually shoot just RAW and then convert it to JPEG in Photoshop CS3. I tried using RAW/JPEG, but found that it took up too much space because I had a file for each format. I use JPEG for family events and have found that with the new camera the image is extremely good. If the shot is correct in the camera there is very little correction to make in Photoshop. I might try shooting RAW/JPEG with my E3 just to see how it looks. The other reason to shoot in RAW is to be able to manipulate the color and satuation for special effects. I have been thinking about using layers to enhance my photos, but I am mostly old fashioned about my photography and am not sure if I want to change the image that much. This is especially true for b&w photography.
I also shoot using a 4GB flash drive and most of the time there is enough room to hold the photos I shoot. When I shoot RAW, 4GB is only about 228 shots. I had my hard drive crash, but was able to recover about 98% of my photos. (and all 800 songs in my iTune library) Unfortunately I lost about 400 photos from a drive up the west coast to Victoria, British Columbia. I now back up to a 500 GB external hard drive automatically. I guess I'll just have to take another trip to Victoria.
