- About Me and My Photography Experience:
- Luis Rivera Maldonado (Sunshine) grew up in The Big Apple, a 'Baby Boomer' born to Puerto Rican immigrants just before 'The Great Migration'. In 1951 although two, at their arrival he distinctly recalls the bitterly cold weather nipping at his tender body. 'Horrific!' Still, it wasn't long before he grew accustomed to his new home. Although a newcomer and an introvert, as the years slipped- people took note.
Just before entering high school, he was granted a scholarship to study oil painting at The Brooklyn Museum of Art. Thereafter, he was accepted into The High School of Art and Design, where he majored in graphic arts, and introduced to the many facets.
After having lived in New York for Twenty-eight years, Luis moved to the state of Florida. Albeit, he couldn’t entirely extricate himself from that small tropical rain forest he’d left so many years before. In heart and soul, he never truly left, as in his mind, he had taken in the entire splendor, and vivid hues of that magnificent paradise, we all call home.
The good Lord bestowed on him three precious worlds: Puerto Rico, New York City and Sunny Florida.
Pondering upon that, Luis concedes, that it was the cross between these three colorful places that instilled and set-off his artistic inspiration: Puerto Rico, with its lush rain forest, and all its rolling hills, winding roads, and majestic mountains; New York City, with its colorful night life and all those spectacular sky scrapers and tall bridges. And last but not least, the colorful state of Florida, with its entire wonderful ambience.
In light of that, Luis enjoys all phases of art expression, you will note; however, that he mostly favors and indulges in contemporary brilliant colored, impressionism and abstract-with a twist or touch, of surrealism exclusively with oils as a medium; let alone photography...please call again:)
