I don't use Jpegs - only as saved copies for the web.
All images are saved as 16bit .PSD files with layers intact, if need be copies are converted to .tiff file (Argb) for any printing.

if it's overcast that's really ok, image quality is down to exposure - nail that and you have a perfect image to edit, i use a curves adjustment in all images to bring out the contrast, black, white and gray points for balance.
You can raise your ISO a little if you need extra shutter speed.
If it gets too darkish may be taking an external flash for 'fill' would help.
The 70x300mm is brill for those candid shots - anyways have fun today, that's what it's all about :-)
