Funny you say that about the lack of people in the photos. There were people everywhere. I just made sure I waited for a second or two to have a clear shot.
I used my Canon 40D for all the photos and I believe my EF-28-135 for most also. There are a few I used the EFS-18-55. I was carrying the EF-75-300 around also, so I may have used it once or twice.
Maya... In the right hand column under groups. You will see the top group is "Monthly Photo Contest". This is only the second contest. You do not win anything, but the winnning photo is shown on that page for the next month.

The night skyline of Prague was only about 1.3 seconds. All the shots were taken on Manual.
