Hello all long time no see. Sorry I have not been around for a while have been suffering from Sciatica on and off since September and cannot sit down or walk for any long periods it’s either sit or walk. Hopefully it is easing off now. Enough…

They go between the lens and the camera. The lens is further away from the back so it acts like a magnifier. You have to be very careful with focus and exposure because less of the image from the lens is reaching the film(or sensor in a digital) I like them because if you have a good lens they don't spoil the quality of the glass in your expensive lens - they're just hollow tubes.
Michael - I saw you in the chat room yesterday and tried to reply but I don't know if you saw it in the thread. In the digital world are extension tubes an option? I have a couple for my 35mm film camera and they turn your regular lens into a macro. It's just a hollow tube so there is no extra glass to worry about but I don't know if they're made for digital cameras.
