You might try NIK software "Define". Nik offers free trial downloads on thier website.

You can download the various common noise reduction software, and try them out before you buy. I tried Noise Ninja, Neat Image, and Noiseware Pro. My own experience, and I've read a few articles that suggest the same, is that each of them…

A stop is the term photographers use when measuring light. A stop is not a specific amount of light, but rather half or twice as much light. If I increase the exposure by one stop I am doubling the amount of light that reaches the film/sensor. If I…

The Canon page says: Focusing Range: Normal: 1.6 ft./50cm-infinity (W), 3.3 ft./1m-infinity (T) Macro: 0.39 in.-1.6 ft./1-50cm (W) Super macro: 0-3.9 in./0-10cm (W) So, if you set it up correctly, you can put the lens very close to the snowflake…

The reasons for the use of fractions is because they are all one F stop more light. But newer camera are in whole numbers. Tv is the speed of your shutter and Av is for your aperture opening. Just remember what T means and what A means. Nikon just…

Misty.......When shooting through glass, it's best to place the lens against the glass as this reduces any glare. It may be hard to do using a flash however being that the environment is dark. F 5 or F11 are your aperture settings and controls…

That is a lot of information you are wanting. The book may be complicated, but take your time with it and study what they are saying. I can help you out a little. When you turn to Tv, you choose your own shutter speed and the camera will choose the…

I don't use screen protectors. My Nikon has a screen that rotates and flips so the screen is against the body and the exposed part is metal. My Canons have screens built into the back and I just take my chances. They seem pretty tough though, and I try to be careful. Of course, my film cameras have no screens.

If the film does not change colors or dim the view much, it could provide some protection against minor scratches.

You might want to check out the latest blog on the Main page: Canon SX10IS user review. He is speaking about screw on lenses.

I'm sure the "Auto" setting you're talking about is for the exposure and not the zoom.

Somewhere on your camera is a control that allows you to zoom in or out on your subject. Typically, the first part of the zoom is the optical zoom, the last part of the zoom range is digital. On my Fuji FinPix S500, the zoom function is indicated on the LCD by a moving line on a bar at the top. Once the optical zoom is maximized, the line reaches a tick mark on the bar and the zooming pauses. Once the line passed the tick mark, it's using digital zoom (and it zooms in much faster thean optical).

Hope this helps.

Misty,
The biggest problem with zooming and noise occurs only when you use the digital zoom. Using the optical zoom won't affect the noise because the shot still uses the full pixel matrix of the camera's sensor.
The digital zoom however, achieves its 'zoom' by digitally zooming in on the sensor image. Thus, you have fewer pixels making up the photo and thus any noise is amplified.

I Misty,
The cameras I use all afford me more control than the Sx10 IS. For digital, I mainly use the Canon 40D or 300D. I shoot a lot of RAW and try to keep the ISO at 100 if lighting allows.
As far as picture size goes, I'm not sure how the Sx10 changes sizes. I can suggest you try to keep the size as close to the camera's native size as possible (and I don't know what that is without doing some reseach).
