The first one you need more light on the focus part. The light is brighter on the out of focus and i don´t like that
The second one also lacking some light, you should use the 2/3 rule to focus that area and not center it

if you had a tripod or something like that you should keep the ISO low and increase the exposure time
if you didn't i guess you had to increase the ISO and you didn't have any choice

I started with a Fuji A303, then i bought a Nokia N73 (which takes great shots). Next i got the Sony DSC-H9 (that i still have), had a Sony Alpha 200 with a 18-70mm lens and another 75-300mm, and the latest one is a Canon 7D with a 15-85mm IS and a F4 L 70-200m IS
