Philip Gann replied to John Blalock's discussion Comments on this HDR? Thanks in the group Photo Criticism
"John, I agree with the other posted comments about the horizon line etc.  I would also add that I'm not sure what you are trying to capture, is it the sunset or the outdoor area? Because it is framed almost 50/50 one competes against the…"

Philip Gann replied to David Henney's discussion B&W or Colour? in the group Photo Criticism
"While I like both for different reasons I prefer the colour version. The red building against the blue sky creates a stong image. If there were clouds in the sky or it was late in the day then I think the B&W would be more appealing to me.…"

Philip Gann replied to Melanie's discussion Skateboarding Photography. in the group Photo Criticism
"Hi Melanie, the busy backgrounds detract from the first two shots and the third is not sharp.  One of the tricks I have seen recently that really makes skateboarding photos standout is using off camera flash. The idea is to underexpose the…"

Philip Gann replied to Clifton Jacobs's discussion Suggestions on what should be done. in the group Photo Criticism
"Clifton,  as Gary says the main problem is the slight blur probably due to camera movement. You need to use a faster shutter speed which means opening up the aperture, increasing the ISO or using flash. It is important that the eyes are tack…"

Philip Gann replied to Carly's discussion Lake shots in the group Photo Criticism

Philip Gann replied to Erna Ream's discussion Here are my recent ones... in the group Photo Criticism
"Erna, I assume that you are processing to get the retro camera / film look that is quite popular at the moment. Generally all of the shots are good with nice use of DoF and framing etc. The only one that does not work in my opinion is the second one…"

Philip Gann replied to Vee's discussion I am trying to get the "hang" of framing, would love to get some feedback. in the group Photo Criticism
"Vee, generally if you want to use a framing technique such as this the frame needs to cover the edges of the shot which in this case would be the top and bottom of the frame. The sky at the top and dark bottom right corner ruin the framing…"

Philip Gann replied to Rebecca Coleman's discussion 1st photo for feedback in the group Photo Criticism
"Rebecca, nice idea to capture yourself taking the photo in the mirror. I'm not sure it completely works with the shallow DOF although I can't pinpoint exactly way I think this. A couple of comments would be the eyes need to be sharper to…"

Philip Gann replied to John Galvin's discussion Please look at photos in the group Photo Criticism
"John, it is better to ask about a specific photo than a body of work that way you will get a lot more response. Taking a quick look you have some good photo's and others that are more family snaps. A couple of them seem slightly over exposed…"

Philip Gann replied to Mike Lamb's discussion Dune in the group Photo Criticism
"Nice photo Mike. The colour in the clouds which is similar to the sand works well and the white caps on the waves has created some good lines to the converging beach and sky. Cheers Philip"

Does the iPad fit into a photography workflow?

Posted on May 8, 2011 at 10:08pm 7 Comments

Hi everyone, I recently acquired an iPad 2 and thought about how it could be used in my photography workflow or if it had any real use for photography at all.

First up I bought the camera connector kit so that. I could download photos which is all very straight forward. Having connected the camera and downloaded some shots I immediately see the benefit of 1. Having a backup copy and 2. Being able to view the shots at a reasonable size but then there have been devices to do this for… Continue
