Photographer Tyler Soverns has been documenting Seattle’s unique underground hip-hop music scene since 2008 under the moniker Rabid Child Images. His gritty, yet glamorous images documented the genesis of local groups Champagne Champagne, Mad Rad, Helladope and many other acts. Shooting primarily with a wide angle lens at intimate venues Rabid Child Images became known for capturing the energy and chaos of small but important sects of the Seattle music scene. He quickly joined forces with the artist collective Out For Stardom and continued documenting Seattle’s underground music scene and posting his photos on the Out For Stardom blog on a regular basis.
His photos have been published on blogs and in local news papers such as Seattle Weekly, Seattle Times, The Sinner and his photos are common place in the Stranger. He also achieved success putting down the fish eye lens and experimenting with a stripped down portrait style via shooting the layout for “Glamour”, local rising stars Fresh Espresso's debut album that has sold over 1,500 hard copies since it's independent release last year. His first photo exhibition “SNAPS” was well received and expanded on this minimalistic portrait style, showcasing notables in the Seattle hip-hop world. Rabid Child Images exhibition “In the Grime Light” will feature his most notable photos from 2008 to the present and opens on June 18th at Upper Playgrounds Fifty24SEA Gallery.
