- About Me and My Photography Experience:
- I reside in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii. My interests include family, surveying, travel, internet chat and website development but photography is my passon, sharing photos is my obsession and the internet is my means for merging these interests.
So far I have photographed digitally in Hawaii, the American mid-west, the American southwest, the Philippines and Sabah & Sarawak in Malaysian Borneo. I added 67 days in China and 40 days in the Philippines in 2009. In 2010 I was lucky enough to spend mid-Jan to mid-March in Davao.

- Canon 5D Mark II (full size sensor, 24meg files), Canon 7D SOLD! (new! Fabulous Autofocus, 8-fps, 1.6x sensor, pop-up flash, HD Video), Nikon 7000 BOUGHT! 16-35mm 2.8 II L (perfect w/ 5DII's full frame sensor), 24-105mm f4 L IS (Great all around but wish it was an f2.8), 70-200mm IS f2.8 L IS SOLD (perfect for portraiture but also scenery), BOUGHT Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 VR II, 24mm f3.5 TiltShift SOLD (this lens largely replaced by PhotoShop CS4 Transform), Canon G10 point & shoot (Hardly used now that I have the Nikon 7000), Gitzo tripod (sorry-the model number has worn off but it is about 3 years old, carbon fiber, 3 sections w/ multi-positon column), Really Right Stuff B-55 panhead, Monfrotto 701 HDV video head, Leki Photostick (Monopod), RRS monopod head & Lowpro backpack. (This gear is much heavier than a 68 year old should be dragging around but I mostly photograph from a van or car trunk so weight isn't normally critical -- except in Chinese railway stations!)

It is very good. My main suggestion is shoot digital and take many images. Perhaps her face turned ever so slightly towards the camera would have improved her left eye.

- I always prefer full frame as the images look better. I also have an older 1DS which is very heavy but still produces great images :) The 5D Mk II is the best camera I have ever owned. Great wide angle shots and I may someday trade my 17-40 for the 16-35 but I am also considering the Sigma 12-24 as well :)

About Backing Up

About two years ago, I bought a Canon 5D. About a year ago I traded up to a Canon 5D Mark II. And, about a month ago, I added a Canon 7D. I mention these things because their huge negative files, 24 & 18 MB respectively, combined with 3 or 8 frames per second shooting has caused me to outgrow my backup strategy -- unless I want to buy two new $130 backup external drives every few months (one for the LightRoom catalog and "Master Images" and one for backup).
