Profile Information

About Me and My Photography Experience:
My main focus is portraiture photography, however, on occasion I'm recruited to take action shots for the school or newspaper. I've been a photographer all my life but only recently began to get serious about it. My first paying customer was almost 9 months ago when I was asked to shoot a wind generator for a local business. How many shots of a wind generator can you take....only about 150!! Wanted to make sure I got it just right!! LOL!
My Photography Equipment:
Nikon D300 and I almost always use the
Nikkor 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 OS AF Zoom....never leave home without the mono-pod. I'd be lost without my Nikon SB600 speedlight.

Baby Doe Studios

Elizabeth Bonduel McCourt was born in Wisconsin late 1854. Lizzie first came to the attention of Harvey Doe, Jr. after winning the Oshkosh Congressional Church figure skating contest. She was to have been described as a "cherub".

She and Harvey soon married and left for the mining towns of Colorado. Her new husband was a failure at mining, so Lizzie donned work clothes and worked the "Fourth of July" mine herself. Because of her rare beauty and even rarer actions, she came to the attention of the miners who began calling her "Baby Doe", their sweetheart.

Circa 1879, Baby Doe left Central City and her husband for the silver mines of Leadville and Millionaire Horace Tabor. She was part of Colorado's most famous love triangle as Horace, 25 years her senior, was still married.

Baby & Horace were together for 15 years in which their scandalous marriage produced 3 children. Silver collapsed in 1890 and Horace died in 1899 leaving Baby penniless. She lived another 35 years at the Matchless Mine, which she no longer owned, often on the charity of others. She froze to death alone, having been abandoned by her two living daughters, within her little cabin in Leadville, Colorado in 1935.

Even though Baby Doe lived a scandalous life, I think she had passion for life and followed her heart. There is so much history surrounding Baby Doe and her life.....history which was preserved within the few photographs found of her.

Thank you for you comment. My photography is completely amateur even though a few pictures I've taken have been published. But I was connected and in the right place at the right time and this site sold another to a gov't agency that was doing an educational brochure for Native Americans (referred to as Aboriginal peoples in Canada).
yes, we are on exactly the same view on the photographers attitudes we got to read here. I guess those rigid people are everywhere. So, I ignore that. I'll try what they say, but working in media, I know that perspective is everything and there is always a million ways to do things. My first art is actually sculpting clay. Haven't done it for a long time. No money in that. Wife wouldn't be impressed with my contribution from there.
Glad you like my pictures. I wish I had more time to spend here really learning the tips so many people offer.
And... I think its great news that your work is putting pressure on local photographers. Its about service, its about the happiness of the client with the end product... which negs the resume of all that education the others might claim is necessary. I have no advanced education and where I work and what I do, I'm embarrassed to say people introduce me as the best resource at what I do in Canada. And I deal directly with Presidents/VP/CEO/Directors of some of Canada's biggest companies with all their degrees, etc. and they come to me for my knowledge in the industry and the Aboriginal community I serve. I guess mom gave me some natural smarts. Thanks again and big manly hugs.

I see you've been trying to open the minds of those photographers here who view their work as "the one true way" and believe their methods are without respite. I am glad to see someone who takes what I believe are fantastic photos full of life and color (even the b&w ones!) has such an open mind and is willing to represent those of us who are just starting out. Indeed, by exploring different methods and doing trying things differently teaches us new perspectives and considerations for what and why we are pointing our cameras towards. Through yours and others photos here, I see a world of images that are very common but make great pictures/images/art because of the uncommon perspectives. If you don't step outside your comfort zone and what you currently have passion for, how will you evolve? I believe these self-professed photography experts do us a disfavor by pigeon holing methods and perspectives as the "one true way for all" that they have experienced successfully. Modern technology has given us new advantages so one may not necessarily have to invest so much to achieve that perfect shot. Why not take advantage of that to see where it leads? I doubt those other photographers will ever appreciate this view. As one philosopher I have read states about the human condition: What works for you, works for you. What's real to you is real to you. These things may not work or be real to others and that doesn't matter as it is no less indicative that one reality is any more factual or real than another's when seeking one's own peace of mind in living in the balance of our lives. Glad to see us amateurs have a voice through someone (you) who's pictures indicate you know what you are doing.
