a rule i kind of follow is to use an f stop based on the number of people in the photo. so if there are 10 people, i might use f/12..... 8 people i would use f/8, etc. I would think it's more that than anything else with focus.
HiI'm a wedding photographer and when I use my D300 to take a larger group of people shot, the first 3 or 4 are in focus but as the people span out they are more and more out of focus. How do I get everyone in the photo all in focus?ThanksRobbySee More
Welcome! This is a new group. I wanted to create a group where you could feel free to explore all the aspects for your D300. Even if you don’t own a D300 you are welcome. I also own and use a D80 as well as various film cameras.
I use a D300, and on a day like that, Aperture priority, 200 ISO, my 70-200mm HSM 2.8 Sigma, always get great results, I shoot alot of Lacrosse, and days like this are common in the south..

Sigma makes great lenses, not as steep as Nikons, I use the 70-200mm F2.8 HSM, picked it up for 500.00, and shoots awesome sports pics, well worth the money, as a matter of fact It's used alot when I do weddings, great lens..
You loose your F2.8, so if your shooting in lowlight, forget it, but in normal nice sunny conditions, it can be great to have, really make your lens get out there..
