Profile Information

About Me and My Photography Experience:
Love photography, been doing it for over half a century. My favorite thing to photograph is "Nouns." If it's rusty, beautiful, has curves that stops traffic, bright colors, or clouded in fog, and everything in between, you'll probably find me photographing it.
My Photography Equipment:
Everything from Large Format to digital, lighting is "Whitelightning," PC w/Photoshop using CS6 and mega plug-ins. I'm pretty much a Canon shooter with two DSLR's and a few lenses, sorry no "L" lenses yet.

Snapshot Vs Photograph

Posted on December 29, 2012 at 4:04pm 11 Comments

I pose this question, 'What's the difference between a snapshot and a photograph?" I would appreciate some seriously thoughtout responses to help me better understand this concept. Thank you for your time.

"I Love Photography" A Painters Perspective

Posted on December 22, 2012 at 9:15am 2 Comments

Hello fellow photographers,

Hot off the presses my new book on photography (from a painters perspective) has arrived. This book is not about F-stops and shutter speeds, it's about rethinking how we see - visualization. It starts with the human eye's physiology and ends with a wonderful intellectual chat on photography, with lots of information about color and seeing in the middle. This book is totally different than any other photography book you've seen before. Very few images, lots…

Portrait professional

Posted on December 17, 2011 at 4:44pm 10 Comments

Having perused the web site for Portrait Professional, I'm curious as to how many of you are using it and how well it works for you. Being an avid PS user, and using certain plug-ins for my portrait work, I'm seeing this software popping up everywhere making me think I'm out of the loop or whatever. So I would like very much to get as many opinions about this program as possible. Also, has anyone ever received this software via a disk and is there a distributership here in the…

Thanks for your nice comment.  I deleted the picture and your comment and my response went by the wayside.  I put a shadow directly underneath her and was not happy with it.  I decided to rework it and post again.  The last picture I had issues with the shadows on the two pictures not matching that I failed to catch as I was so involved in just putting it together.  Because of what  I learned about the dodge tool and I finally corrected what needed to be done by doing some cloning and on the rocks below I had to use the selection tool along with the contrast/ lighten tool and also used the cloning tool to add some more color. Overall was happy with the results. These pics are just fantasy anyway so I am using my artistic license.  I get so involved in creating that my mecanics  aren't what they should be.

Bob, Yes I do love flowers.  I guess you could call it a passion for me.  I have a lot more to post as I find time. I have only just started working with textures and find that flowers are the perfect subjects for blending in.

I hope you make it to Big Bend area, it is beautiful.

# 2  Not so safe.  I had used the flood filter some other time and got off default and didn't realize it and wondered why the picture was different.  Finally I found default and did the first pic.  I kind of like a little more reflection in water with the second.

Last night I was reading your discussion on Beyond the Basics---  It's art.  I came across the picture of the truck that you asked Ron to play with.  He said he was too busy and left it at that.   I decided I would like to take on the challenge even if the discussion is closed. So if you don't mind I took it and played with it and was quite pleased with myself. I that is allowed.  I did it 3 times before I got the results I wanted as I did have a plan.  I will past the first one first and then the other one that is a little different and not quite so safe.  Enjoy or not.    Glad for any feedback  # 1 the safe one.

Thanks again Bob.  I pull out one of my old dull run of the mill pictures and work on it and you know with the editing programs and new tecniques out there now I come up with something  that amazes me also.  Then I get confused, was it a good picture to start with or is it just the editing  tecniques? Maybe both.
