Question about Diffuse Glow

Hello everyone,
I have a Diffuse glow option on my Photoshop Elements 9.. For a long time if I used it, it would set off a pretty soft glow to the image, then, just one day, it is now making the image black. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on? Also, I am looking to buy a softbox in good condition, I would like a 3x4 profoto. Let me know if anyone has any thoughts on this blog.
