Hi there Staale,
Thanks again for the comment and the extra info. The problem with photography equipment in South Africa as apposed to in other countries such as the USA, is that our Rand / Dollar exchange rate is very bad at the moment. It was w...
My copy at least was as sharp as anybody could ask for, perfectly useable at f/2.8. I upgraded to a Canon 24-70 f/2.8L later, and the image quality from it was much the same as the Tammy gave, the biggest difference was that Tamron lenses impart a...
Hi there Staale,
Thanks again for the further info which is worth researching about more.
I'm more interested in the sharpness, clarity and the wider aperture and that kind of thing and I thought that this lense being a cheaper alternative to th...
Your call. The AF is the Tamron's Achilles heel, it's no big deal for many and a dealbreaker for some. If you have used the EF-S 18-55 kit lens or a 50mm f/1.8 you will know what kind of autofocus to expect from the Tammy.
There are some ergonomi...
Hi there Terrance,
Wow, thanks for the encouragement to go with the Tamron. I will probably do the same... that is, buy from a good dealer. What I read was to go in and take my camera with me, with my laptop and try out a few of them and pick the...
Hi there Staale,
Thanks for your honest opinion. I am sure that I will get vastly different opinions, but I think that what I must do is go into a camera shop and test them out on my 40d. I must say that even if the Tamron has a smallish flaw suc...

Thank you Rory for the warm welcome. I'm sure that I will enjoy myself here once I figure out how it all works (i.e. adding friends, etc). Although I've always had a passion for photography, I'm just learning (I'm taking a college course), and there's a lot to learn. Once I have more time on my hands I will post some photos and would love to get some good critiques on how I can improve my photos. Also before posting them I would like to place a watermark on them as I've recently read that some people may be using others photos. I'm hoping that I'll be able to do this using Elements 6. I do have some photos posted on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/otiliab

Thank you very much for the comment on 'bridge of rome'! You gave me some good critiques for improving my work. Sadly I can't go back to Rome to try again, but I will find new subjects to shoot. You are right about the the stone forground of the picture. When I took this I wasn't thinking of a HDR photo. I came with the idea when I was home.
You have such great pictures in your collection, something to be proud of. Hopefully in the future I am more talented than I now am..
