I agree with Philip entirely,
just a thought sometimes flipping the image horizontally works, as we tend to read an image from the left it's always good to use that part up with the negative space.."

Exposing for the darker midtones and then doing some dodging and burning probably would have achieved the same result and not introduced…"

Have another go but don't shoot into the…"
