DSLR has way more options when it comes to taking photos the way you would like the image to look, while compact you may have a mamuel mode but still the corol will not be as good as dslr. In the dslr you look through the lense not the sensor like the compact and the focus is way faster then the compact camera, no mater if its more advanced. So when it comes to take pictures at night you may not see your subject at all, but with dslr you will for the most part see what your eyes see.
