Profile Information

About Me and My Photography Experience:
I am retired and live among the Redwood trees and near the coast of Northern California. I have been taking photos for over fifty years. I shot film for most of my life, but I love what I can do with a digital camera. I sell my images at a store in town. I volunteer shooting photos for the local repertory theatre and the museum. I believe that every moment is unique in time and space. No moment will ever be exactly the same again. Because this is true, I love to capture special moments and share those images with other people. I also believe that a photo should tell a story or interest the viewer in exploring the scene further. I love to shoot landscapes because nature presents some very interesting scenes, none to be repeated exactly the same way again.
My Photography Equipment:
Olympus E3
Olympus E300
I have four Zuiko lenses:
12-60mm SWD,
14-45mm,
40-150mm
70-300 mm.
50mm, f/2.0 macro
Two tripods, one monopod
Studio lights
Back drop
Various lens filters
Adobe Photoshop CS5
Adobe Lightroom 4
A Cokin filter system with three graduated and three solid ND filters

Dan I'm in total agreement on Zuiko lens, they are the reason I went with Olympus, just great glass. I just wish they would get back to making more for the big E's. I would love to have a 85 f1.4. And a really good single lens for travel, 14 - 250 mm in a f2.8. I love my e-3 also great camera. I look forward to seeing more of your shots, Dave.

Hi Dan., I think they pump water over and over below the water line to keep the ice broken up.

Thanks, Dan. I'm glad you like the FB page. i was also happy how it came together. I had all that stuff as I am preparing for the web site and was happy how it looked on FB...kind of cool/. I am hoping that the real site will be exceptional but in the meantime I have my friends all directed there for updates. I'm glad you are among them. Best, April

Thank-you, Dan. I may have seen a large view of "Light Upon the Water" as it displayed really nicely. I love the sound of your other book as well. The Bear book :) Definitely you are loving people. How are the poetry readings going?

Winner at the county fair

Posted on August 17, 2012 at 11:16am 9 Comments

My photograph of Fernbridge at night. that was shot from the west side, took third place in the professional catagory at this year's county fair. I had it printed on a 16 x 20 inch canvas that was gallery wrapped. My other entry, of a woman in a garden, did not place. It was printed on the same material.

Windfall, the documentary.

Posted on May 26, 2012 at 12:18pm 0 Comments

The documentary film, Windfall, is now available through Netflix. This is an excellent look at the down side of industrial strength wind energy. Everyone seems to look at wind energy as some great answer to our environmental problems. Unfortunately many people are unaware of the problems with this energy source. As the saying goes, "The devil is in the details." This film looks are both sides of the issue and brings the details out in the open. Watch this film and the next time someone tells…

Wind Energy Gone Crazy

Posted on January 10, 2012 at 4:42pm 6 Comments

Last night we saw a documentary film titled, "Windfall" that tells the truth about wind energy. Shell WindEnergy wants to place 25 giant (450 foot tall) industrial wind turbines on the pristine ridge behind our town. The carbon footprint it takes to get these monsters makes me wonder if there is any real advantage. Most of the green energy produced by these things goes into the pockets of the developers in the form of dollars. Habitat will be destroyed and raptors and bats will die in…

Published in San Francisco magazine

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 12:23pm 11 Comments

The Associate Art Director for San Francisco magazine was looking for an image for an article about the America's Cup boat from the 2003 race that is now ported in San Francisco. She saw my photo USA76 on Picture Social and emailed me asking if they could use the photo. I agreed and she agreed to compensate me along with photo credit. The September issue came out and my photo, (cropped to fit the article) was on page 48. The credit was in five point type and buried in the fold at the bottom,… Continue

The Iconic Image, Art Photography exhibition

Posted on February 1, 2011 at 10:53am 1 Comment

I have just discovered that our local museum, The Morris Graves Museum, in Eureka, California is showing prints from the Humboldt Group Collection that includes photographers Berenice Abbott, Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, Walker Evans, Dorthea Lange, Arthur Rothstein, Edward Steichen, Brett Weston and Edward Weston. The exhibit will be there through March 8. What a great exhibit!. These are the people who helped made photography an art form. A gentleman in town who passed away last year, Don… Continue
