I had my first photography class this past Saturday. It was a little basic based on what I have already learned on my own, but there were a few things that I did learn. Hopefully more comes out of the remaining 3 classes. I think there will be.

But what I really got out of the first class was that I want to learn more, so that is a good thing. Thats really all I can ask out of this class - to want to learn more. And what I think I really need is someone that can show me some things - tips, tricks, advice - as opposed to me reading on my own and trying to remember when I go shooting. And what better way to learn than with a professional photographer.

The class is small - only about 8 people - so its personal, but not too personal so its uncomfortable. At least the advice and tips are helpful.

So overall, I enjoyed the first class, and I think I will enjoy the other 3 and if I do and if I learn some more I will continue with more classes. He also offers some outings to take pictures as a group- so that could be fun as well.

Anyway, I have a homework assignment to take pictures all week in some of the different pre-sets, which I have done in the past, but I will do again for this purpose. And thats fine, as long as it leads to the greater good.

I will see what the pictures look like and maybe post some that I like. I guess we'll see. Sooner or later, I am going to have to, right.

Until next time.

When I take classes, 90% of what is said I have heard before, but review is a good thing. My criteria for the class is to come out of it with one solid bit of new information. The conflict comes when I take one course from photographer A, and a second course from photographer B, and their teachings on how to set up the camera are 180 degrees apart. I resolve this by looking at each instructors work, and copy the one that most closely aligns with my style and subject matter. The bottom line is there really are no rules after you learn the basics. Just go out and shoot and develop your own style.
