Controversial Excessive Photoshop Retouching

These before and after shot have been circulating all over the web lately and have sparked up conversation about "how much photoshop work is too much, in the fashion and glamour industry?" I believe this is a magazine from somewhere is Russia.

I wish I could get hired with a magazine to do this! I LOVE morphing people into perfection!

Using Photoshop or any photo retouching software isn't a bad thing when is done in moderation. However when people completely change the photo, it changes tends to lie to the audience about how a certain place or person looks. But if this happens is because people want to see it.

I think its fine, the model got her cut, the photographer got theirs and the magazine sold copies. If a person doesn't want their photos manipulated don't sell the copyrights to the photo or a limited usage agreement. Someone pay me $5k for a photo they can do what ever they want to it.

Photoshopping a photo isn't necessarily a BAD thing. When done in moderation. Photoshop itself is a type of art form, but when you manipulate a photo too much you tend to abscure the trueness of it. With people, photoshop itself can become a "disease" as society has made "beauty" a very stereotype of itself. "Beauty" is considered to be thin, smooth, and perfect... however, there are many things about a natural persons features that make them beautiful.

The above picture, the models hair was beautiful to begin with, her features of her body were beautiful as well, however because society deems that thinner is better, this is the result.

Maybe I'm just jealous... lol

I don't think the skin is the controversial part. I think it is the unreal proportions...look at her leg and how thin they made it, her waist/back, her upper arm, and her face has become a mask. Hence why Meg Ryan looks the way she does now...sad

There's much worse out there, this one isn't TOO bad. Until we stop obsessing over porcelain skinned touch ups like these this will keep happening. It's a vicious cycle, women in magazines are abnormally perfect and give us unrealistic views, clients come into the studio wanting the same treatment. Rinse and repeat.
