I've been craving some giant release of pent up creative energy. My friends and I take amatuer shots of each other outside, but it doesn't feel like enough. I know its the key to getting better, just practising and having fun with it...but I can never quite get past that wanting to do more with it feeling. First of all, I KNOW I need a better camera. My friend has a NikonD40 and I salivate everytime it comes near me. Compared to my s1000fuji it reigns high supreme. I love how easy it is to use...so i've decided that I have to make a serious effort at starting to save money for it. If I ever want to be good enough to satisfy myself I have to start getting the right supplies. I keep saying I am going to buy myself a reflector kit but every payday something else seems to come up. Not anymore though, this pay day for REAL I am going to get one and start learning how to use it. (Anyone living in HRM, goto Henry's...their prices are AMAZING for equipment!!)

So thats my first peice of professional eqipment I intend to buy is a reflector. I'm looing from somewhere between 10-22inches...just because I run a hand-held operation as of right now, and it might be a little akward to have someon holding a 36inch reflector and have it done properly. My next investment, while saving for a dSLR will be a stand for said reflector, and possibly a few lights too...

Happy Snapping,

Kate

Oh, also, check out the competitions and assignments... shoot and post to those too, the people there are mostly really nice about advice.

The only way I learn is by doing... but there's probably enough settings on the camera you have now to start experimenting. First of all ditch the program settings and see what happens. Good luck! Stay dedicated! Put up post it notes of the camera you want to buy, in the bathroom, at your desk, in the car, on the frig... maybe that will help :)
