I just got back from London's Moorfields eye hospital. Me in a hospital, very uncharacteristic. A&E, not admitted, I hasten to add.
Over the weekend I got quite a large scratch/tear in my left eye, maybe from a toxic chemical, maybe not. It was very painful, but has settled somewhat. They have given me some antibiotics and anti-inflamatory drops and want to check again on Wednesday. I only went because one of my staff pestered me - but I am glad I did. The doctor said it would probably have sorted itself in 10 days or so (if it is what they think) - but the pain was pretty uncomfortable so I wimped out. Jumped the queue too because the nurse took one look at it and ushered me through. Did you know they put a dye in your eye to see it better?
Looking at photos they had on the wall of the hospital during WWII it didn't look as if the spirit of the place had changed much.
Extraordinary number of people with eye problems going into Accident and Emergency. I never realised just how fragile our sight is. I would love to shoot there, but doubt I would get permission.
Thinking about it, I realise how important my sight is to me. I love the visual world. I see beauty in it all the time.
This problem should be minor, and they'll fix it - but rejoice in sight and raise a glass to it.
One-eyed-Pete!
