Panning is done in movement of the subject for example, a child moving near u, market scene people moving, outskirts cars, trucks are moving....To capture them steady or slightly in motion with the background out of focus, having the feeling of the movement.....in different lights, u have to manage with different shutter speeds, or viewing the motion of the subject and nearness to u also determines the shutter speed and critical focusing.
2. suppose a child is moving near u at 10 ft distance and light is diffused, u can use the slower shutter of 1/15 to capture him in motion and bg blurred, keeping the aperture at f11 and ISO AT 100.
AS i have taken the above shot with the shutter speed of 1/60 at f8 at ISO 200, the light being dull....the truck was in speed and i got the boy luckily to add interest....
3. The technique involve u to handle the camera in a moving way,,,,means,,,,u have to start looking at the subject thru ur camera from an earlier distance and keep moving the camera with it and as soon as it reaches before u, press the shutter and keep moving the camera for few seconds....and u get a panned shot....REMEMBER suppose u are shooting a fast moving car and want to stop before, u, u will have to use the higher shutter speed......shutter speed changes with the movement of the subject......slow movement--slower shutter speed and vice versa.
