Lighting, one of the most important element used in creating a meaningful expression for a photographer. Light creates “mood” and set the tone for the viewer in which evokes a reaction or feeling.
The “quality” of the light refers to it’s color, direction, and the intensity of the light which a photographer should always consider first in choosing his or her image to capture. Depending on what the “quality of light” is, will determine how successful the final edited image looks like.
Light, gives the viewer a sense of what the photographer is feeling at that exact moment in time just before that crucial second before snapping the shutter. A second, frozen in time that will last a life time and beyond.
In this hands on workshop, you will learn:
How to see Light and it’s many moods.
Creating a story from the available light that you are under.
Evoke a feeling or mood from the viewer.
Types of lighting - Front, side, back lighting, and overcast lighting.
Capturing the image in black and white opposed to color.
After the first hour and a half presentation, where examples of light will be shown. The class will then meet at The Huntington Library where there will be all of the different “qualities of light” learned in the class lecture. This gives the student a chance to get feedback from the instructor while they make their image.
