snOMG! - Blizzard of 2010

The digging out isn't even over yet, but I finally got a chance yesterday to walk around and take some pictures of the aftermath of the Blizzard that walloped the Mid-Atlantic region on Feb. 5 & 6, 2010.

Some amazing facts I've come across about the storm:

• BWI Airport broke it's all-time 2-day snowfall record. 24.8 inches fell, beating the 24.4 inches that fell in February of 2003.
• Colesville, MD was the big "winner," receiving 40" of snow.
• Washington, D.C. has only received more than 12" of snow 13 times. The odds of receiving two 12"+ snowstorms in one year? 1 in 10,000.
• Animals don't wear underpants
  
  

A little background on the severity of my weather-geekdom:

1. I knew the storm was coming a week before anyone else b/c I frequent weather forums (Yes, I just said "weather forums") that amateur and professional meteorologists post on about upcoming storms. They discuss models and "analog" storms to try and predict what will happen. I find them to be waaaaaay more accurate than your typical TV weather guy/gal.

2. I stayed up until 5AM on Friday, Feb. 5 just to watch it snow. Again, I STAYED UP UNTIL 5AM JUST TO WATCH IT SNOW. I wasn't drinking, I wasn't partying, I was standing in my doorway watching the flakes fall. I even took some video!


That's my car you can see as I pan to the right. When all was said and done, I had around 3-4 feet of snow completely surrounding my car. I'm sore this morning, and I'm sure you can figure out why. Wait, don't think too hard on that one...

I'm pretty disappointed I didn't capture any thundersnow, apparently it was rampant in Baltimore overnight but I didn't see or hear any. Bummer.
