It is all about how we use light to capture an image and it doesn't matter if it is through the lens of a camera as a digital or film image or through our eyes and painted on a canvas. That was brought up again for me yesterday during a product shoot at a candle store in town. The store was quite small and had a large front window. I was able to use the natural light with a little fill in using my umbrella light.

It is truly all about how we capture the light. The first thing I notice when I get ready to shoot is the nature of the light, then I work on composition.
