About David Wollum

David Wollum
Male
Dunlop, Australian Capital Territory, Australia
Where are you from?
Grew up in Kalamazoo, Mi, later Los Angeles and Phoenix - now - Canberra, Australia
About Me:
My dad was a photographer. I got my first camera, a Brownie, in kindergarten. Ever since then, I've had an avid interest in photography, mostly landscapes, but lately I've developed an additional interest in portraits.

In 1998, I met the most amazing woman online. We met in person four years later, and married in 2004. Since she lived in Australia, one of us had to move and it turned out to be me.
What Photography Equipment do you Use?
I've gone from a 3.34 Megapixel Nikon Coolpix and worked my way through 4.0, 5.2 and 8.1 Megapixel cameras before settling in on what I believe to be the best digital under $1000 - the Panasonic FZ-50, 10.1 Megapixel camera with 12x zoom. Once again, I'm thinking of upgrading - it will either be Cannon or Nikon, but I have a lot of research to do first.

For image enhancement, I use Photoshop CS3.

I agree with Bobbie. If you get software from Limewire, its illegal. Beyond that, there's a real good chance it will have a virus or some other sneaky little piece of maleware attached. By the time... Read More »

Usually, I take a few test shots in AUTO Mode, just to see what the chip in the camera recommends. Sometimes it surprises me. But most of the time, I use Aperture Priority. More often than not, con... Read More »

Thoughts on the Nikon D40 for a newbie

??? ... Ergonomics? ... Except for a smaller number of megapixels and a different emblem on the body of the camera, they're identical. How are the ergonomics better with the D40? Read More »

Photoshop CS3 Malfunction - Help !!!

All of a sudden, CS3 no longer offers me the choice of saving RAW files in the jpeg format. I thought it might be something to do with my new Nikon, but I haven't installed any of the software that came with it. I went back to RAW photo files taken with my Panasonic FZ-50, and the same thing happened - no jpeg option, so I'm concluding the problem is not specific to the brand of camera and must be something that happened in the CS3 program itself. I can save a RAW file as a TIFF, but those are a…
